Weekend Roundup

Soooo.... Whats happened since February? HA..... a lot...

Lets just start with what happened this weekend...

Tommy played in his first Soccer game! Much anticipated and a week late because of a high fever last weekend. So proud of my boy! Its fun being a mom on the sidelines... heart wrenching but fun.

Daniel had his first game last week... I got pictures but none of them turned out to well.... I will have to mine Dads phone for some better ones and post them next time.

Besides Soccer there was a trip to Home Depot with the whole crew.

And some impromptu drywalling of the basement stairwell followed...

Then I thought I would make us all some apple dumplings ala pioneer woman. So I popped open the crescent rolls I had stolen from my Mom only to find they were GARLIC flavored.... have you ever heard of such a thing??? So instead we made pepperoni rolls.

I discovered Vivian has a flare for rolling bread dough.

Hers were by far the neatest of them all.... so... all in all a good, busy , productive and fun weekend.
And hopefully a good little start in getting back into the habit of keeping track of some memories here.

Catching Joy

Today was a blur of laundry, school, meals, dishes, school, folding, school, diaper change, school, break up fight, kiss boo boo, meal.... But somewhere around dinner prep as school work got finished and chicken got put in the oven the kids begged to go outside. Into the barren tundra. And I sighed and gritted my teeth and said yes.

Then came the gloves, layers, POTTY FIRST! More layers, hats, lost boots.... And finally they were out!

.....Then Vivian's boot slipped off. So out I went to help her. Thinking I would come back in.

I went out in sweat pants and just my coat and boots.... But the joy caught me. And then Tom who was working in the office saw the joy out the window and had to come join in.

And we spent and hour freezing and winded. Together and laughing. Snapping pictures, making memories, grabbing onto the fleeting joy of fresh snow in a too short childhood.

Sometimes we get so busy we forget what it's all really for.

More of this please and thank you.

Family Outing

Today we had a long overdue family day.

We cashed in on a gift card the kids got from my Aunt Kathy and Uncle Roger.
I thought I was indecisive... I may be, but my children outdid me today.
We spent a good forty five minutes letting each of them decide how best to spend five dollars.
The blessing was at least everything was five dollars so there was no need to veto any choices.
We would probably still be there if that had been a factor....

It was fun to see what they picked for themselves, Vivian got a ball, the boys picked bow and arrow sets, and Bella got a little stuffed puppy in a pick purse.

Next we ran through the grocery store and pet store, and then to McDonalds.
A rare treat for our four to eat out with all of us... it just gets to darn expensive.

Now we are home, tucked in and eating all the Halloween candy we can while we watch a movie.
And looking forward to and extra hour of sleep in the morning!

Happy Weekend!

New app new day

Today got the urge to blog. This hasn't been the norm lately as you may have noticed.... But I feel like I am missing things. Moments. Forgetting the funny things they say and do. I am hoping a new phone and a new app will help streamline the photo sharing process also... Because pictures make it so much more interesting!

School today...

And now some quiet time....

And here's a little backstory on our summer.... In photo form.

More sooner than later i hope!

Four

Last night Tom and I went out for a much needed date. And we had a trip to the store to pick a gift for Daniel's birthday today.

When I got home he was still up and he got out of bed to say goodnight.
I said "Give me one more three year old hug and kiss! Tomorrow when you hug me you will be four!"

To my great surprise the boy who will NOT let me refer to him as my baby got teary eyed and quivery lipped and said "I think maybe I wanna be three for just one more day mama. I don't wanna grow up yet!"

I informed him that he wasn't born till after dinner... and therefore we could count most of tomorrow as still being three :)

This Week...

This week Tommy asked me which cloud Heaven was on...

Daniel was supposed to be in his room changing his clothes on Friday night but instead he was standing on a toy chest naked and dancing in his window with a blue and red flashing light up toy.

Bella and I began reading from her devotional, Jesus Calling. It feels so good to do something just for her and I. And its so amazing and confidence building that I was able to teach this little person how to read.... somehow I couldn't imagine the day when she would read to me at night.

This week Vivian tried my patience and somehow also pulled me through the exhausting times with her cuteness. On Friday we were spring cleaning some things while Bella was away at a sleepover  and the boys played together. She was my little helper/terror. It made the work go soooo much slower but somehow it made everything more fun. Even when she was drinking out of the dirty trash can I was washing in the tub using the medicine dispenser.... even then...... *shudder* gag*....

Daniel asked me when it would be Easter again this morning.... I was confused. I said that TODAY is Easter. He looked confused then.

He said...
"So last week (when we colored eggs and went to the church egg hunt) was just practicing?".

This morning we all put on our Sunday best, and we were on timeish.... and we were better than we usually are. Or maybe it just seemed that way. Maybe we seemed better, shinier, less whiney to me because I was seeing us through the lens of this love. This all sacrificing, poured out, unbelievable love that Jesus gives.

Seriously this time......

I got a little heartsick last night about my complete lack of blogging lately.

I don't really care about the blogging, for its own sake or if anyone reads it.
I have needed to get down to the bare bones of life in order to get  into the swing of homeschooling two kids at once.

The truth is that the reason I am writing is that yesterday morning Tommy was not being himself so I checked his temperature and it was over 102. So I got him some meds and his pillow and blanket to snuggle with on the couch. He then asked me for his stitch.

Stitch as in the little blue alien from the Disney movie.
He sleeps with it every night and has weeded it out from and impressive collection of things he used to sleep with. He loves it.
And I had a moment of panic.... what if someday I forget how much he loved that stupid thing.

What if I forget that Bella telling me a couple days ago that she wanted to have a spa day and put "pickle slices" on my eyes and take a bath in mud.

How would it feel to not be able to tell Daniel that when he was three his favorite food was banana's and his favorite show was mighty machines... the one about going to digging school.  And he liked the bad guys better than the good guys. And he talked constantly about fighting a skeleton army.

And Vivian.... I am sure I won't forget to tell her that her toddlerhood nearly killed me... assuming I survive. If she gets out of sight for even a moment all hell breaks loose. The other day I found her under the chopping block in the kitchen with a steak knife..... seriously.

I am pretty sure she was out to get me since I didn't write her birthday post.

I have no other system for keeping track of these insane but beautiful days.

So I must write it seems.
